Finding life’s passion. A talk by Dr Jane Goodall in Malaysia.

Jane Goodall
Finding Life’s Passion. Jane Goodall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Finding life’s passion. An inspiring talk by my hero Dr Jane Goodall this morning in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr Jane Goodall has been my inspiration since I was young. When I was 20 years old, I went to Tanzania to volunteer as a research assistant because of her. I thought if she could do it, so can I!. I did but I didn’t last too long on the field. It takes determination and will power.

Dr Jane Goodall believes that we can make a positive change to our world regardless of who we are. She is known for her research on Chimpanzees in Tanzania.

In July 1960, at the age of 26, Jane Goodall traveled from England to what is now Tanzania and bravely entered the little-known world of wild chimpanzees. She was equipped with nothing more than a notebook and a pair of binoculars. But with her unyielding patience and characteristic optimism, she won the trust of these initially shy creatures, and she managed to open a window into their sometimes strange and often familiar-seeming lives. The public was fascinated and remains so to this day.

Today, Jane’s work revolves around inspiring action on behalf of endangered species, particularly chimpanzees, and encouraging people to do their part to make the world a better place for people, animals, and the environment we all share.

I am in awe of her dedication and passion. What an incredible woman.

This talk was organised by Roots and shoots Malaysia.

If you are curious and want to know more:

  1. Jane Goodall Institute.

Our Mission The Jane Goodall Institute promotes understanding and protection of great apes and their habitat and builds on the legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, our founder, to inspire individual action by young people of all ages to help animals, other people and to protect the world we all share.

2. Roots and Shoots

Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots is the Jane Goodall Institute’s (JGI) global youth-led community action program, comprised of thousands of young people inspired by Dr. Jane Goodall to make the world a better place.

The program builds on the legacy and vision of Dr. Jane Goodall to place the power and resources for creating practical solutions to big challenges in the hands of the young people.

My cousin’s wedding, the Malaysian way

1. Temple
Temple wedding

I’ve just been busy helping out at my cousin’s wedding last few weeks, which explains why I have been missing from wordpress. Please excuse me. I would like to share some of the highlights with you.

I find it interesting to look at weddings from different cultures, and by sharing my cousin’s wedding with you, I hope you will find it interesting as well.

I live in a multi cultural society. Malaysia is made up of diverse races and religion.

My cousin is Eurasian. Her heritage is Portuguese Kristang. The Kristang are a Malaysian ethnic group with mixed Portuguese and Malay and for some possibly Indian or Chinese ancestry, which arose during the Portuguese colonial period (16th to 17th century). Her husband is Malaysian Malayali. The Malayali (also Malayalee) are a Dravidian people who inhabit the South Indian state of Kerala and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep and have the Malayalam language as their mother tongue.

When they decided to get married. They both agreed to combine their backgrounds. So they had a temple wedding, a catholic church wedding and a wedding dinner party to celebrate their union with their friends and family.

I was the maid of honour. I’m not quite sure what that role meant, but I took it on myself to make sure the bride was happy at all times. I assumed the role of bodyguard and messenger.

It was a beautiful wedding that lasted one week.

I wish them both eternal love and happiness.

Now that the wedding is over, time to rest 🙂

Park(ing) Day in George Town, Penang

Park(ing) Day 2015 George Town, Penang

Park(ing) Day in George Town, Penang.

There were over 40 reclaimed parking spots today all over the heritage zone. The event was organised by MyGeorgeTown.

There were so many interesting ideas. I wish there were more creative, fun and green spaces in the city to enhance our urban life and to bring communities closer together.

Think about how your local spaces are used and what you can do about it.

Leading up to the final weekend of George Town Festival in Penang and so much more to see

Sketch of the day no 697 in my art journal is a flyer for my friends pop up bar. The Lotus Lounge, Penang

Sketch of the day in my art journal is a flyer for my friends pop up bar. The Lotus Lounge at 92 Love lane, Penang. A last minute decision to chase away the Monday blues and to celebrate George Town Festival our own way!

We even managed to make some last minute merchandise for ourselves and guerilla marketing in less than 24 hours. I made the flyer in the early morning, printed it out and we stuck it in town. Cut out stencils for the t shirts which we bought at the local mydin store. All made in Penang with love. We also recruited a chef from Belgium who served up healthy chicken and veggie wraps and a few artists provide a creative vibe 🙂

It’s like magic when we work together as a team xoxo

Penang based artist: Tiffany Choong’s George Town Fringe | Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia

I love George Town Festival. Every year I visit the events and review them on my blog. My friends ask me about which exhibitions to visit because they see on facebook that I’ve been to them all and I’ve done the leg work. As an artist based in Penang, it is incredible to have a month long arts festival. It is the time for me to see what other creatives are doing and to share ideas.

This year you can read all about it in Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia and follow my insiders guide to the festival.

Tiffany Choong’s George Town Fringe | Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia

“Two weeks in and BAZAAR Stylish Woman 2014, as well as Bulan Lifestyle bag designer and artist, Tiffany Choong, leads us through the sights and sounds, curious little side paths (and, of course, cocktails and cafés) of George Town during the ubiquitous George Town Festival 2015 — when an entire city is turned into a thriving arts and cultural hub for a whole month, even garnering international coverage. The brainchild of Joe Sidek, it’s literally when art takes to the streets and everyone, from all walks of life — from entrepreneur to auteur — participates. From her favourite after-hours drink spot — Chulia Court on 355 Lebuh Chulia for their fresh pineapple mojitos, thank you — to where you should go for a little post-festival Shavasana, presents 10 things to try when you’re in Penang this August.”
