Sketch of the day no 514 in my art journal: stewart the seagull wish upon a star for your dreams to come true

Stewart the seagull “Wish upon a star” quote

Sketch of the day in my art journal is Stewart the #seagull wish upon a #star for your #dreams to come true.
The inspiration behind this is from my own experience last night.  I was sitting on my friend’s balcony looking out at the sea and I saw a shooting star.
It’s going to be a great year xoxo

Sketch of the day in my art journal no 481: you dont have to be great to start but you have to start to be Great!

This is what I’ve learnt since I started my sketch of the day: You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be Great!

I was scared at the beginning to put my drawings on paper. I was afraid people would laugh at my work and I was afraid of failure. That little voice is still there, but I know that I’m getting better and nearer to succeeding. I have come too far to give it all up. It has taken my 481 baby day steps to get here. The journey will continue and it won’t be easy, I have to remind myself to take each day as it comes.

I am thankful.

Sketch of the day no 475 in my moleskine art journal: fresh coconut at diamond cliff, koh lanta

I forgot to upload this sketch yesterday.  My favourite fresh coconut drink. This is my 3rd coconut sketch in the series from my daily art. I love it that much 🙂

A time to reflect..

As the year ends, it is time to reflect once more before we leap forward into the new year. It has been a roller coaster year for me. Lots of work done for myself and for charity. I completed my sketch a day challenge and have continued with my daily sketches and I hope it has inspired you to take up a challenge of your own.

Thank you for following my blog and supporting me through my ups and downs throughout my journey this year. I appreciate every single one of you and I treasure the friendships I have made here.
Ring out the old, ring in the new. May there be peace and light in our world.

Happy New Year 2015 xx

A quick sketch in my moleskine art journal of feathers. I love feathers. I don’t know why. They are just so pretty. I will be travelling the next few days and I’m not sure if the internet will be any good to post anything but I will try 🙂

Salako kids in Kampung Jantan, Sarawak, singing Auld Lang Syne at their graduation performance

Salako kids in Kampung Jantan, Sarawak, singing Auld Lang Syne at their graduation performance. The kids in this group are pretty young. The ones in the front row are only 6 years old. This shows what can be achieved in a few days. How I miss them!

Education is the key to a better future, and our children are our hope.

Have a great weekend xoxo

Salako Indigenous Tribe

Also known as: Selako Dayak, Selakau, Salakau, Salako, Silakau. There are not more than 20,000 of them left. A very rare minority group. They have settled around the Lundu district in Sarawak on the island of Borneo and around the Indonesian border. They are mainly Christians.

My heart melts watching this. Kids from the Salako tribe, Sarawak, singing The Way I am.

My heart melts watching this. The kids from the Salako tribe, Sarawak, singing The Way I am. This is why I fell in love with them. They learnt to sing this song so quickly but yet they could barely string a sentence together in English. Singing is really an amazing way to teach kids English. We also used this activity to ask them to translate the words into Malay so that they understood the meaning of what they were singing.

The star of the week was also KIKI the Eukele that belongs to Mika. The kids would greet us good morning and then they would also greet KIKI good morning. GOOD MORNING KIKI ;p

Truly amazing and inspiring!

Sketch of the day no 462 in my moleskine art journal: kampung Jantan wooden house

Kampung wooden house sketch
Kampung wooden house sketch

Sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is a traditional Salako tribe kampung Jantan wooden house. The wood is painted turquoise and it has a zinc roof. Most of the houses were painted bright colours. I sketched this last week but I couldn’t post it up because there was no network coverage.

We were staying next door to this house. Ours was bigger and had a concrete annexe. It had electricity and running water from the gravity feed. We slept on mattresses on the floor, kampung style,  but we were really comfortable.

#Sketch of the day no 461 in my moleskine art journal: cute panda travel cutlery set

I am back from my adventure to Sarawak, East Malaysia.

This cute little travel cutlery set was given to me by my friend Chelsia who inspired me to go on this adventure. This was the first sketch I did in Sarawak in my moleskine art journal. It was just too cute!

I couldn’t load the drawings up because we were off the grid. There was no internet access and barely and phone coverage. It was truly liberating.

More photos of my trip to come….:)

Have a great week xx
