Portrait of the week: Professor Green

Portrait of Professor Green

Sundays are now stay home portrait days. Last week’s sitter Professor Green for Artist of the year, live on Sky TV  talks openly about how we need to have conversations about mental health issues especially during this difficult time. It is something I believe in and want to raise awareness to this subject many people find difficult to talk about.
As an artist, I go through ups and downs myself. Somedays it spirals more than others but meditation has helped me a lot, it helps me stay calm and stay focused, but I am also lucky to have good friends who check in on me frequently.
This week, reach out to someone you haven’t heard from for a while and ask without judgement how they are doing. That could be all that is needed to start a conversation. 🙏

Portrait of the week: Clare Balding

Portrait of Clare Balding

I haven’t been posting my portraits here on time but I have been following the show Portrait artist of the week on Sky Tv Facebook live, and painting religiously because it has been so much fun belonging to this art community and seeing other submissions.
Have a creative Sunday my friends ❤️ Looking forward to today’s 4 hour portrait session

Baby Bunny

Baby Bunny

So Easter came and went and the only chocolate I had was a box of painted Leonidas which I shared with baby Bunny 🐰
It’s been a surreal few months and the world is still reeling from it.

Dumpling the duckling

Dumpling the duckling

Meet Dumpling the baby duck. Spring arrived and soon after baby Dumpling was born. Again this was inspired by my hours on YouTube. It was a video of a mother duck leading her 10 or so babies across the road in Idaho. Unfortunately most of them fell into a grated storm drain and sewer pipe but luckily a passer by saw and called the nature conservation people to come save them. It was a happy ending. True story. 🐤

Ping ping the Panda

Ping ping the baby Panda

I started painting baby animals after i painted my first baby sunbird born on my balcony in mid March. Around the same time, I read in the news that a pair of panda twins were born in Chengdu zoo. It inspired me start a series of baby animals born during lockdown. This is Ping ping the baby panda. The name means Safe in  Chinese.

Suzie the baby sunbird

Baby sunbird

This portrait of my house guest, Suzie the baby sunbird was  painted at the beginning of lockdown 3 months ago.
She flew out of her nest on my balcony and landed on my living room floor, feeling dazed and confused. I watched her from the sofa as she sat there plucking up courage to attempt another flight after the fall. She took her time, waddled around, flew to the edge of the balcony and with all her strength and courage, flew off to the unknown. 

This is the first portrait I painted during lockdown as a push out of my comfort zone of not touching this subject. If you have been following me for a while, you would have seen that last year I started on some portraits but put them on pause. Admittedly portraits have never been my favourite subject but as a challenge to my own artistic growth, I decided to give it another try, and this time round, it’s been a massive breakthrough as I am enjoying them, and as you know, my art has to bring my joy
Wishing all of you, my friends, a Happy weekend, a happy strawberry full moon and to new beginnings 🎑 🍓 🌕
